Every year it’s sort of magical, how the light returns and the days grows longer with each passing week this time of year. It can be really cold some days but I don’t care really, the light is fantastic and I guess this is one of the reasons why I still live up here. For someone who haven’t been around to see this it might be hard to understand the feeling when you see the days getting longer, just a little every day. If you had daylight maybe 2-3 hours a day and then with each week you suddenly have another 30 minutes to 1 hour, it makes a difference. And then around Summer Solstice we have the sun above the horizon close to 24/7.
Sometimes people have asked me, what is your favorite season? And I can’t decide, they are all special, having something that I long to see every year. The returning light this time of year, how the snow slowly melts, the first shade of green, first flowers, birds and their young, see the kids play, warmth, light. The fall comes and you see how the leaves change, the air is colder, things start to wither and then the first snow, darker evenings so you can see the stars again… and the magic of a starry sky and a bright full moon, big soft snow flakes (mittens as we call them sometimes) falling, covering the ground and sparkles in the light and so it goes on.
Today I was taking a walk with my camera and took some photos, thinking that if my darling husband had still been here I know he would’ve been really waiting to go out ice-fishing and in some ways I miss it, but I prefered to go later in spring since it’s longer days and warmer. But to see this, the snow on the branches and the sun making them sparkle is special this time of year, disappearing with the rising temperatures…

Great photos!
Thank you
