Recently I’ve been listening to a song that really stuck on my mind. I’ve been listening to it before too, but for now it seems very appropriate the way I feel and all the things that’s been happening around me during these last couple of months. Maybe its just the time of the year, grey skies and rain today so… The song is in my language so not many of you will know what he’s actually singing, but I’ll try to do a translation and hope it will be of some help.

The song is called Håll mitt hjärta written by Björn Skifs and the music is by Lasse Andersson and Peter Hallström.

Hold my heart – hold my soul

Lay my head in your lap

Tell me you mean and wish me well

Hold my heart – hold my soul

As I’ve been waiting all these years

You can heal my wounds

Take my hands and make me whole

Take my heart – take my soul

Hold my heart – hold my soul

Just let me stay here

So all I ask of you, all I need

Hold my heart – hold my soul

Here is another recording with one of our opera singers, Malena Ernman, who is singing this song too. She has an amazing voice, and yes I do like opera, but that has nothing to do with it. Her voice is still amazing.

Yesterday I was running around like crazy. Started out with returning books to the library and finding some new ones. Among them was Angie Sage for daughter and some others for me. One of them is completely new to me so will be interesting to see what it turns out like. Then off in another direction and getting some of the things that will be needed for our new family member. Phew, before I was home my arms was at least twice as long! Home to drop off the things I had and off again to buy some necessary groceries and then finally home and catch my breath. Until it was time to get daughter from school that is. I suspect someone was tired yesterday since she actually was dressed and ready when I got there. Not the usual ways around here.

And then we find out that the guy who has been threatening the kindergarten close by our school has been set free for the time being because of informational issues that dragged out to long and they couldn’t keep  him. Well, I don’t think he will actually do anything to anyone there, alcohol and drugs make people say things they will never do when they are sober. But anyway, just to keep parents feeling safer, there is police outside in a car just in case he shows up. But I’m not worried, not one bit. Nothing happened last time and I can’t go through the day being worried over what might happen. None of us will feel better because of it. And nothing will take care of the dishes either if I sit around here. Get going, up you go, you can play and have fun later.

I was just sitting here, thinking that it’s soon time to go get young one from school when a memory popped up in my head. I think it must have been several years back, at least two. It was me, daughter and my mum and we had been looking after the grave of my grandparents and maybe even my dads if that was the time for it. But anyway we were waiting for the bus at a bus stop and at the same time there was a young couple, probably from Japan, waiting there too. Since Gammelstad is on the World Heritage list it’s nothing strange with finding tourists from all kind of nations there at any time of year really. But they were so completely… lost the word for it… well, fascinated is as close as I can come with my daughter. Young, Scandinavian with her blond hair and big blue eyes, and not shy and looking down or away but looking back at them even if she stood close to me. They politely asked if they could have a photo with her and I asked daughter if it was ok and she just stepped forward and stood there with this complete stranger as if it was the most natural thing in the world. For them it was probably very exotic, just as exotic as I would have found them if it had been me at the same age. We talked about that on the bus on our way home and wondered what they would tell their family, relatives and friends about this blond little girl with her blue eyes. So different from their own dark hair and darker skin. Wonder where those photos was shown later? I’ve been thinking a little on and off after that, if I ever met them again and I could ask them, what was going through their minds when they saw her, and what was the reaction from those who later looked at their photos?

This is kind of similar, the opposites, differences, we have with our changing year. We have gone from longer days to shorter and shorter ones. Today is really cold and there is a crust of ice on the puddles. Most of the leaves have fallen from the trees and everything prepares for the winter. Dying and decay, and yet it’s not that far off to the time where everything turns and slowly goes toward longer days and more light. But first we have our day of honoring the ancestors, those who has gone before us, at Samhain/All Hallows depending on what path we follow, or not following at all perhaps. I find myself thinking a lot of the ones I’ve lost during the last couple of years, candles lit, missing the times when I could talk to them about different things that were special for them.

Oh well, time to go get young one and go back to the ordinary world and not the one of deep thinking.

Birthday party

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

That is why I haven’t been around for a week. Tired, other things happening that had to be taken care of, and most important of all: Daughters birthday party! Today is her birthday, but who will have a chance to come on a Monday afternoon after school, work and what not?  So it had to be the weekend. Saturday was the day when there were 8 girls ages 7-9 under the same roof… I can only say one thing when it was all over: Blessed Silence. But they had lots of fun apparently and they are big girls now so they didn’t need any help with coming up with games or anything else, they took care of that all by themselves. Sunday was a lot more peaceful, just my brother and his two sons, grandmother and a friend of ours so much easier to deal with.

What she wanted for her birthday? Lots of things, like all kids, and I think she got things she really likes. It was pearls that you just spray with water and then they stick together, no ironing and having to be careful with that. She got some books that will be fun to read and some notebooks with pencils, and something that might keep her off my computer some, her own Kurio. For those of you that doesn’t know it’s sort of an Ipad, but made for kids instead. And no, that gift wasn’t from me. They are way to expensive so I gave her a notebook and some pencils. We are after all having a cat in our home soon so it is some expenses there too. We’ve never had a cat before so there is no older things stuffed away and just finding them again.

To go back to that Kurio again. There was a game in there that was sort of fun, Fruit Ninja, and you’re supposed to chop fruits in halves as fast as possible and work your way up. I’ve chosen the easiest alternative so far, no bombs or other tricky things. And making sure that there is no way she can add games without asking me or anyone else first. I’m not really in the mood to find out that there is money missing from my account and not knowing where they went.

But now there is a new week and new things to deal with. New shoes for a  young lady, her waterproof ones turned out to have a not so waterproof crack in them. Not new ones so I’m not surprised but she need something that isn’t to warm just yet. And then it’s finding clothes that will fit for the winter, and skies, shoes for those and new skates. Phew! And soon it will be Samhain, or Halloween for those of you that ain’t pagan. And I’m trying to find spreads for that particular evening since my external hard drive ain’t any longer and all that was in it too. Lucky for me I have friends, books and internet to help me out with it.

You know something else? I looked at the kids school schedule for this month and saw that they will go to church and talk about this upcoming holiday, but even if Halloween isn’t that big here kids still like that part of dressing up and all that, I felt that even if they are only 7-8 yrs old in daughters class I can always let the teachers and other personnel know something about what Halloween is and the history of it, and what my holiday, Samhain, is all about. That way they can always tell them parts of this and give them some insight into what they are celebrating. Hope it will be of some use.

Most importantly, I can tick off Birthday party on my list of things to do this month. Happy!

These photos wasn’t taken today, last week and around 8-9am and the mist made it almost magical. Letting your imagination create whatever it likes about what to find further down your path or among the trees. Today is a different weather, blue skies, some clouds and really warm. The last part I found out walking home from some shopping errands, and leaving two bags of clothes to the Save the Children Foundation second hand shop. Lovely place. I don’t find as much as I used to before but now and then there is something useful for my daughter. All of a sudden you find something that looks like it’s not even been used for a very fair price.

But here are the photos, some of them anyway.
