Oh, and that is? I guess  there are some going off right now. In this case it’s a challenge stretching over a month.

Of course, that’s why it’s called a monthly challenge, but then what?

I found this on Instagram thanks to a friend that had started it too. A monthly challenge could really be about anything, to publish a photo each day of a special theme or motif, or answer a question every day about  yourself or some specific area.

This monthly challenge had the tag #TarotMentors and have three specific dates, the 1st, 11th and 21st. What you are supposed to do on June 1st is to pick a tarot deck you wanted to work with, shuffle the cards and pull a card. This is a mentor card, a card that contain a special lesson or message for us. It can turn out very differently depending on what kind of person you are, what deck you use and all the other factors that can have a saying in it. The idea is that you are to work with this card until June 11th, then you pick a new mentor card for a 10-day period. I might add that you can pick a card yourself, instead of the random choice, maybe you have some sort of “stalker” card and want to have an idea of what it has to tell you, take your chance.

But what? Are you just supposed to sit there with a card, one and the same, to meditate, think and try to understand what it want to tell you for 10 days?!

No, each day, or at least a couple of times during these days, you are supposed to take out your mentor card, put it back in the deck you are using, shuffle the cards until you are satisfied, and then look it up. You turn the cards face up just to make it easier, and search the deck until you find the mentor card, pick that out and the two cards that are beside it on either side. These two neighboring cards are cards that together with the mentor card will give some extra information for the lesson or message that you need to deal with. And this is what I’m planning to do, hopefully with one every day if nothing else happens.

This is what I’ve got so far, just on the second day, so… my mentor card is the 10 of Air from Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert.

Gaian Tarot #TarotMentor

June 1, 2017 Gaian Tarot

Tonight I pulled my mentors card for the 10 days to come, it became the Ten of Air from the Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert. What would it like to make me think about really? This isn’t the typical RWS picture with someone on the ground with the 10 swords sticking out their body, instead you see an evening or morning sky where the sun is low outside the picture and it colors the clouds in shades of yellow and pink. Over this picture there is a V-formation of geese, forming that familiar plow, and they look like silhouettes.

Air for me is the element of thoughts, ideas, and the intellectual areas really. It has the not so positive sides too of course, to not thinking things through or using words to hurt or harm or cause problems. Communication is important, but sometimes you have to broaden your horizons with it too, not stay put in one place. Get some perspectives on where you are and where you are heading, not stay on the ground and put your head into the nearest bush and pretend that the world doesn’t concern you.

June 2, 2017

The cards flanking the mentor card today is The Fool and Seven of Fire. Something that deals with starting something new or finding a new path and something that seem to be about creating, to shape or re-shape something.

The Fool card is in some ways a traditional RWS card. The stick with that bundle on it, that you see the person standing higher up, but then it differs. This is clearly a girl or young woman and she’s standing looking out over the landscape that spreads out below, fully aware of the fact that it’s steep here, even though grass is softer than the cliffs and rocks. Instead of a dog it is a fox and swallows darting around like acrobats in the air. A river winds its way and show that even if we have some sort of goal set in our minds, maybe the way there isn’t as straight as we would like or wish for sometimes. Just like water we might have to take the best way, the one with the least resistance, just to have a chance to get to our destination.

Seven of Fire would in a RWS have been Wands, and had a completely different look. If I don’t remember all wrong, that card has a person standing higher up and seem to be fighting off or challenging some others below, those might not always be visible, but you can see their spears or wands directed towards the person standing higher up on a rock or something. This card is a smith, a female one, standing there hammering on a piece of glowing iron. Something is about to be created, re-shaped, turning to something new out of the old. We can be both the creator and the thing being created, formed after need and desire, formed after life and the experiences we get along the way. The fire is both destructive and creative, the question could be, what is to be created? Are we helping out or just standing there and follow someone else’s direction, being led without any will of our own, or is this my will, what I want and really feel that I want to create? What do I really want? Where do I want to go, what do I want to create, achieve?

I finally decided to use two decks and two, well three, different spreads. The first one is the Elder of Fire spread by Joanna Powell Colbert and I used her Gaian Tarot of course. I can’t help it but it feels right for this spread. Perhaps it has to do with the Elder of Fire card she used to present the spread? If you would like to take a look you will find the link here.

And just to get an idea of what it looks like and the positions I’ll give you them here and the photo I took of the cards I got.

Samhain Elder of Fire Spread

Samhain Elder of Fire Spread

  1. Offering: What or who is dead or dying, that you need to honor?
  2. Challenge: What task does the Elder of Fire ask of you?
  3. Center: Where do you find your center of power?
  4. Opening: What new sweetness is wafting in on the scent of burning herbs?
  5. Wisdom: What secrets do the ancestors whisper to you during this season of All Hallows?

For those of you who like to add the bottom and top card for extra influence these are the ones I got, bottom – 5 of Fire, top – 4 of Earth.

For the Offering position I found Elder of Air (King of Swords) who is standing on what seems to be a plain under open sky, playing a flute while a moth is flying off. So what is dead or dying that I need to honor with this card? I would say that there is some old things that I’ve been carrying around with in my mind and this elderly man is playing the tunes that I will recognize if I just listen and quiet down my chattering mind. Let whatever is holding you back go, there have been some things in life that really tripped me but this will be ok if I just come to terms with it and see the lesson and how far I have come since.

A challenge then, something the Elder of Fire asks of me in the form of Guardian of Air (Queen of Swords) who sits on a hilltop with a white owl soaring in behind her. She confirms what the Guardian already is telling me. Let go, listen to the sounds, let whatever has been holding you back in your mind fly. Take the wisdom and teachings from the situations and let the rest go.

My center of power is represented by The Emperor, that man who is making those beautiful carvings on that pillar. So what could that be then? What is my center of power? Is it that pillar that he is decorating or am I the man himself? Capable of keeping focused on the tasks at hand and at the same time creating a home, a sense of safety and comfort? I could probably do a lot more creative stuff too if I really got around to do it. And making much better on the creating a home part.

Something that will open up for something new, something sweeter is 7 of Fire. Well, sweet isn’t really the first word that pops up in my mind about this young woman who is working as a blacksmith. Creative, strong and do know what she want and how she want it would be more fitting perhaps. You have choices on how to do things, but sometimes you have to be open for changes since your plan might not really follow every step on your list. Maybe there have to be some flexibility too, depending on the material you are working with you have to follow that too somehow. It might have some ideas of its own. Something is about to be created if I’m just open to what is offered.

The wisdom of the ancestors, the message from them, is coming from the 2 of Waters. An older woman standing close to a waterfall and a white dog or wolf is standing with her two front paws up against her shoulders. There is a connection between them, a bond, love, trust and a feeling of oneness. They share a life and might even be at that point where you share thoughts and feelings, if it’s an animal you start to feel/know what they are thinking, what they want and how they want it, or get mental images. Feel the balance, the love and trust you share with others, humans as well as non-humans, nature and all her beings. Share your love and your gifts.

Another spread I tried, or two really, comes from Bonnie Cehovet and she created these two, a reading and a meditation and since the number of cards are few it’s easier to do than starting off doing some 10-15 cards in each spread when there is Trick or Treaters behind the door a little now and then. I can tell you, a little off topic, that the cat feels very confused over this running in the stairs outside the doors, and the little human coming and going. What is this?! At least he’s not like Pooka in the latest story about him, who is so afraid of the Trick or Treaters he want to go and hide somewhere, even trying a carved out pumpkin. The real ghosts on the other hand are not a problem. They are, as he describes, just family and friends visiting and do no harm.

Back to the spreads we go. This is what it looks like and what the positions talk about:

Halloween Spread

Halloween Spread

1 2 3 4

1. My conscious self on this night.

2. My unconscious self on this night.

3. What my Guides want to tell me.

4. What the Void wants to tell me.

5. What I need to take from this night.

I used Hidden Realm (I tend to mix the name up with Hidden Path by Raven Grimassi and Mickie Mueller, so if you find that name somewhere around, it’s just me). Bottom card was Knight of Pentacles and I forgot to write down the top card.

My conscious self on this night is represented by Five of Wands, several young fae climbing a tree and all having different expressions of face and body. The one that catches my eyes the most is the one closest who looks a little afraid, or at least careful. Perhaps wondering about how safe it will be to go higher up or if its best to stay where he/she is or maybe even go back down to the ground. So it is sort of me actually, not sure about how far I can go, or if I can handle the situations at hand. Thinking before acting usually, even if I can be a dreamer or be spontaneous, being practical and cautious is mostly me.

My unconscious self this night is Ten of Wands, a young boy with painted face and right arm holding an egg that seems to be fiery in color. He looks at you and it’s hard to determine what is going on in his mind. Being careful isn’t a bad thing, but sometimes it’s good to take chances, see what will happen, find out what you have in that egg of yours. Is it a dragon? A phoenix? Something that would create something new in your world and life? Maybe it’s time to not be so cautious and take a chance, see what that egg can turn out to become?

My guides wants to tell me something through the Queen of Cups, a mature woman who is holding her cup out towards us. She has a slight smile on her face, but I have the feeling that I am the one who has to make a choice of approaching her or not. She will wait until I make that first move and perhaps ask her for something, look down in her chalice and see what it holds for me. I have known sorrow and grief, but also joy, laughter and love, it’s time to find my way again.

The Void is telling me through the King of Swords that this is the time for making decisions, mentally at least. Keeping focused on the things that are important to remember and not letting things of less importance come in the way. Work with the others in this spread and see what you can make out of all this. Keep your cool and not letting too much emotion run off with me.

What I need to take with me from this night is The Blasted Beech (The Tower), and it might seem harsh to some, but on the other hand, if things are too stagnant or you rely to much on an imaginary safety, it might be time to shake things up a little and see what isn’t as stable as I might think. It can be scary to let go, or pull down things that has been forever and gives a sense of false security but building it up again can make it more stable and finding new and better ways to do things.

So over to the meditation then, same deck, different cards.

1. The Seeker’s physical world.

2. The message from the void.

3. The Seeker’s spiritual world.

For my physical world I found The Star, there is hope and I can look forward to what is coming. See that there is light in the end of the tunnel and a new world opening.

Message from the void is Ten of Pentacles that says find your holy places, relax, feel secure and at peace with your surroundings.

My spiritual world is Two of Pentacles that says to me that I should put down my roots and come closer to the ground and see both what is in the open and what hides deeper down. See more than what is on the surface.

I had to take a break between doing the Elder of Fire spread and the others since someone, guess who, decided it was a nice spot to lay down on… I’ll give you some clues: black, furry, yellow eyes, thinks he is the center of creation. Oh yes, him!

So we have arrived safely at the beginning of 2014, so far. The mouse for the computer decided it didn’t want to live any longer so it caused some problems on the last day of 2013. But since I haven’t been around here since Winter Solstice I guess another day or two wont matter much. Lots to do and places to be during these days, but fun anyway. And I actually got some time to do a spread with Book of Shadows Tarot vol 2 So Below and one of Joanna Powell Colbert’s spreads and see what will be for this year to come and here it is:

What to leave behind 2014

What to leave behind 2014

What to leave behind in the new year

1. 8 of Wands – What do I leave behind in the Old Year?

2. Queen of Pentacles – What do I open up to in the New Year?

3. 8 of Chalices – Key Opportunity of the New Year.

4. King of Swords – Key Challenge of the New Year

5. The Stars – Hidden Concern (pull from bottom of the deck)

6. Ace of Pentacles – Deep Wisdom/Advice from God/Goddess (from the middle of the deck)

7. Knave of Swords – Key Theme of the New Year.

The things I leave behind in 2013 is a different kind of picture than traditional with a woman standing in front of a chalice where a glowing sphere floats above it. A salamander is seated on top of it and above the womans head and raised arms are what seems to be fire or energy twisting upwards. So what am I leaving behind? All that I thought I had to do or others thought I needed to do and all the stress and worries I’ve had communicated inside me and around me. I can clean up my communications on all levels and let go of all that will stop me from going forward during the coming year. A cleansing ritual to let go of what has been.

What I’m opening up for during the 2014 show me a woman and a man walking along together. She is wearing a yellow dress and a wide brimmed straw hat and holding a basket with vegetables over her right arm. The man seems to be telling her about what grows along their path. So what will I open up to with this in mind? I’m older, hopefully wiser, at least with some more experiences along the way. This will be a year for looking at what I’ve accomplished, what is growing and all that I can learn along the way. I already have a lot of things with me that I’ve harvested earlier and there will perhaps be someone or several someones along this year to tell me more that I can have use of in my life and whatever path I chose to walk.

The key opportunity for 2014 is represented by a young woman seated in a room surrounded by books and notes. Above her is two fairies holding a pen for her. Maybe that is what she is looking for? Something to make notes with while she is reading interesting things from books, or using them as reference material for her own writings. So something that will be a key could either be writing, using a pen (or computer) or reading, using books for further learning. Will I be asked to do something with searching for facts or writing this year? Time will tell, but somehow it feels like I will be looking for something to start with and then when I find it most things will fall into place all by themselves.

The key challenge for 2014 seems to be getting out and work with others, even if much of my opportunities seems to be working alone. But this card gives us a young woman standing in front of a white board or similar with other people listening to her explaining what this is all about. They might come with ideas and thoughts of their own of course but she’s the one with the most important facts. So am I this woman or am I one of those sitting there listening to her and ask questions and waiting to see what will be necessary to do when we are informed about what we are supposed to do. I’m no big fan of talking in front of people, big crowds or not. I can do it, but it has to be something where I know what I’m talking about. So what do I know, or will know, that can be of interest to others? Whatever it is my challenge will be to get out among others and try to be comfortable with it.

My hidden concern with this card gives me something to think about. This card is a hot summers day with a mum, two kids and a dog playing around having fun with a water hose, a small children’s pool and a ball. Might have something to do with what might lay in front of me perhaps. Will there be time for play and relaxation if I have lots of work to do? Can I relax and have fun, just be me, if I have all the work to do and have to focus on what has to be done there? I know that in case of a tough work load I have to find time for fun and play and not leaving my family stuck without any playtime.

Some deep wisdom or advice from the Goddess and God is represented by several gnomes trying to move small rocks and a human hand lifting one from the ground. So what is the advice here? You have to do your job and stay grounded, but don’t forget to ask for help when you need it. No one says that I have to do everything by myself, and even if it’s not much each of the others can do, it’s something and one thing at a time and no rush.

The key theme for this year is represented by a young girl flying a kite where a photo of a fairy is attached. At the tail there is another fairy flying. Let my mind soar and let my mind fly. Play with ideas, dreams and visions of what is and what can be. Don’t let things keep you down or stop you from having dreams.

And now while I still have some quiet time I will try out another spread that I got from a friend. If it turns out working well I’ll might tell you about it. And a last photo, I know it’s not very good but it was sort of cute with cat and daughter sleeping and dreaming together one of the last days of 2013.

Sleeping and dreaming of what to come perhaps?

Sleeping and dreaming of what to come perhaps?

Yule, or any other name you prefer. Today here in Sweden, and I wonder how many that really is thinking about it or even remember that it is this very day. That the light will slowly return to our part of the world, slowly at first and then in big leaps. It’s 3pm here and it’s pitch black outside, would be if it weren’t for the street lights. And the tree inside that we put up today and hopefully the cat will leave alone. Time will tell. He tried to taste it, but plastic doesn’t taste any good I hope, but there is all the other interesting stuff in it that shines and sparkles and can be ooh so interesting and irresistable to a curious cat.

So now that the Sun is going to be reborn what would be better than try out a spread? I think I found a good one, The Halcyon Spread that Joanna Powell Colbert created some years ago. I’m sorry but I can’t find any link on her blog, but you at least know it is hers. On the other hand you can go and take a look and read the wonderful words she’s written for this day at Blessing of the Child of Wonder.

But here is the Halcyon Spread that I found on Aeclectic Tarotforum:

1-3 are for the year leaving
4 – 6 are the year ahead
7 is the fulcrum, the pivotal point, well, now, the Solstice

1 – what I need to leave behind
2 – what I need to learn from
3 – what I need to take forward
4 – an opportunity to watch for
5 – a challenge to face
6 – a message to keep with me through the year
7 – a snapshot of where you are now (interesting to see how 1 – 3 lead up to it and to imagine how 4 – 6 will flow forth from it)

I don’t know what made me choose one of the decks I’m really having a hard time with, but anyway I chose Book of Shadows Tarot – As Above for this spread just to challenge myself. And cheating a little by having the other one, So Below, as a comparison if I get stuck. I’m so not into astrology and all that so it isn’t even funny, hope you can survive my ramblings anyway.

Book of Shadows Tarot As Above

Book of Shadows Tarot As Above

So to begin with the cards for the year leaving we have

1 – What I need to leave behind – 6 of Air. This card shows a young woman sitting at a table with papers spread out around her and fairies flying about. At the front of the card we can see a thick Book of Shadows and a curious cat standing with its front paws on it. She seems to be working on something, or trying to sort her papers to put them into the book or something in that way. So what is it trying to tell me I need to leave behind then? All my worries about not getting things done and in the right order, that my life isn’t as well organized that I would like to sometimes. With a pet in the home there is bound to be a little more things around too. It might be time that I try to do get away from my “papers” and mentally planning things now too and get going with whatever needs to be done. The same card from So Below is a young girl laughing and running after a fairy, leaving the wasteland behind and crossing a path to a green and sunny place.

2 – What I need to learn from – 5 of Air. This is simply a palm of a hand where the major lines in it is glowing thanks to the fairies. It’s about palmistry, life, love, health and whatever else it might be. Another area I’m not at home with. Palmistry has never been my real interest either. But what should I learn here from the year that has passed? Life will go on no matter what we think or want really. The major areas of our lives will happen one way or the other. There is no use to stress and fret over things, just take things as they come and do the best you can with it. From the So Below deck you can see three women standing as if they have been in a competition and now they have gotten their prices. The one who won is happily holding up the sign for her victory, the second doesn’t seem to be very happy about it, not really accepting coming in a second place as if that isn’t good enough. If you don’t win you are not doing good enough. The third seems to be content with her place, maybe not all happy about it but accepting that this wasn’t her time and that next time she could do better. From all these three prices there are fairies coming out and all of them are happy.

3 – What I need to take forward – 4 of Air. This card is a dark alley or a pavement with some sort of fence on this mans left side. Behind him is what could be either a dark moon or a moon eclipse with just a dim streetlights at his back. There are fairies flying around  in the front with one holding a four leaf clover, another sits on a bird, the third on a cat and the fourth is beside a small stone or a nut/seed of some sort. What do I need to take forward? Trust my instincts and my intuition that I will find the right way in my life for the coming year even if it seems to be dark and I might be unsure of where I’m going. It’s been some tough times behind me but it wont be dark for all eternity, I have to believe that there will be better times and the light will come again, no matter if it’s the sun or the moon leading my way. In So Below we see a young lady sitting in an office of some sort feeling relaxed. Fairies resting a little here and there so this could tell me that I shouldn’t try to be on my guard all the time, just let life happen one step at a time and all will be well in the end. No one will thank me for wearing myself out.

The year ahead then?

4 – An opportunity to watch for – 10 of Fire. This card makes me really wonder what it wants to tell me. It’s glowing lizards lining the cards and we’re definitely out in space among the different star signs like Bear, Lion, Unicorn and many others. Who are they and what does this tell me? An opportunity to watch for, and that would be? All these are usually connected to stories, depending on where in the world you are. Some are really interesting. Is there something I’m being told about that could be an opportunity for me? The book says among other things: “…indicates that the events in question are cannot be changed and that there is a role that must be fulfilled on an action that must be taken. The actions we take in the face of unalterable facts define our nature and shape our character.” So if I’m using their interpretation for this there is something that will come my way and that I’m supposed to do in my lifetime. So Below has a woman on her way home from work perhaps. Trying to find the key hole with the help of her cell phone in the dark. Finishing off the work day and now home and perhaps eat some dinner, relax and do whatever one likes to do in their free time. Some salamanders are peaking up from her bag.

5 – A challenge to face – 3 of Earth. This card isn’t really what I associate with a challenge really. But who knows? There is one elf sitting on a leaf and on another one there is one standing eating a berry. Around them is flowers, some bees and on the ground you can see one elf sleeping and something that looks like potatoes almost but above ground. So what is the challenge? Balancing between doing what has to be done and finding time to just be and do whatever feels good, make things work together as a whole whether it is about people, animals or things that has to be done. In So Below we see a woman standing in front of her painting, maybe she’s done with it and just looking to see if there is anything else that needs to be added or changed. Two elf help her out at her table with cleaning brushes and making sure there is no paint left in them.

6 – A message to keep with me through the year – 2 of Earth. It’s a card with beautiful colors of a rising sun lightning the clouds from underneath and coloring both air and water in different pinks. At a shoreline with rocks and puddles of water we can see two elves, one is sitting and the other one is walking in the water on his way to something. There are some starfish on the rocks too so probably a low tide. The message to keep with me then, what could that be? Finding balance in my way of living and doing things. Letting water and earth find a balance without overtaking each other. In So Below there is a woman standing in a kitchen reading a recipe and stirring in a bowl. An almost invisible elf pours water in another container. Creating and doing things both because its fun and there will be an award in having it done when you can eat whatever you made there.

And finally the last card:

7 – A snapshot of where you are now – Ace of Earth. A pentacle with a human figure  on it and in each corner creatures and symbols for each of the elements and a streak of white energy coming up from the top of the pentacle. I am in the middle of things, I can go wherever I like and I have all the elements with me. Strangely enough there is some sort of balance here even if I don’t always feel like it is. I can be in complete balance and harmony if I only try to, because it’s there all the time for me. In the So Below deck we see elfs moving small rocks and a human hand picking up one of the rocks. Something begins to form, just a question of what.

A friend of mine and I have planned, many times, that we would work with a deck we both have and try to get to know it and learn some on the way. So finally this might be coming to realisation. The deck we both have is Gaian Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert, so the next thing to solve is: what to do? We talked and came to the conclusion that we are neither of us a real newbie in these areas, and we didn’t want to work with too big a project either. So what to do yet again. Books, spreads, what? I have been doing tarot for a lot more years than she does and obviously I have collected more decks and more books. But we did come to think of the book Tarot for Yourself by Mary K Greer (tarot celebs wherever you look) and finally decided on “A story through the Suits”. The idea is to sort of create a story with the help of your cards and the Celtic Cross. I’m no big fan of the CC but it’s been some time since I worked with it and in this particular area it is an excellent tool.

Main Character - Guardian of Water

Main Character – Guardian of Water

First of all you would either choose a card from the Court Cards or pick one at random that would become the main character that this story will be about. I chose to pick a random card and found myself with the Guardian of Water (Queen of Cups in an ordinary deck). This mature lady in the water will tell her story for me, or something anyway. We’ll see if it turns out to be anything at all or if I’m getting completely stuck somewhere.

And on we go with or story/CC.

The Celtic Cross - what is in the story

The Celtic Cross – what is in the story

Cards 1 and 2 are Six of Air (Swords) and Five of Fire (Wands) and they will describe the conflict in this story.

Card 3, Nine of Water (Cups), represents something that our main character doesn’t know, which is at the base of the matter.

Card 4, Guardian of Earth (Queen of Pentacles), represents something from her past that must let go.

Card 5, Five of Water (Cups), represents what is on her mind.

Card 6, Elder of Earth (King of Pentacles), represents what comes next.

Card 7, Four of Air (Swords), represents the self-image of the main character.

Card 8, Three of Air (Swords), represents the environment.

Card 9, Ten of Earth (Pentacles), represents the lesson to be learned – what change the character must go through.

Card 10, Seven of Earth (Pentacles), suggests the ending.

Just to have some fun I looked at both bottom and top cards from the pile and found Child of Fire (Page of Wands) and Ten of Water (Cups). Maybe they will have something to add here?

Then it’s just making my mind up on how to write, what to write, other people and events that might be in here to make a story out of it. Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!

The Cat helping out

The Cat helping out

It wasn’t simple to come this far I can tell you. First I sat here watching the snow fall, not horizontally any longer, and trying to get the cards in order when I hear a funny noise from the kitchen. I had put some black and red currants to boil, I’m going to do some glogg (should be two dots over the o, I know, but it will look funny later perhaps when you try to read it) with them. So trying to get free from the table hitting my toes in one of the legs, jumping over a surprised cat and taking care of the smaller accident when it boiled over. So back to the cards, try to take some photos and not being happy about the light. Just to find “Santa’s little helper” come bouncing along and happily crash on top of the cards. He figured I needed to see and hear him instead of doing all that not so necessary stuff… why on Earth be in the kitchen and holding the camera when you can be with the cat?! As he hadn’t got all the attention he wanted before! To bad there wasn’t anyone home besides me, human that is, when I tried to first clear out his litter box and then wash my hair. Crouching to clean said litter box I just hear a grunt and then he’s behind my shoulders looking curiously at what I’m doing. Not the least interested in getting down I went over to the bath tub and started to wash my hair. No, not all of me was in the shower this time. And while I’m doing all the stuff with shampoo and that I can feel how he just started one of his favourite games – catch the tail! It’s not my idea of having fun, not when it’s my back he is putting those needle sharp claws in! I guess it must have looked really funny for a bystander, if it had been anyone there at the moment. So I hope you at least got a laugh out of it.

I read in Gaian Soul, the blog by Joanna Powell Colbert, that James Wells had made a spread and dedicated it to her, Your Divine Gift. Since I happen to like both these people and find them awesome in their knowledge and how they apply it I wanted to try this spread out and here is the result of it. But first the problem with “Help! What deck will I use this time?!” I have so many and even if I do love Druidcraft it was no where to be seen at the moment. Either someone is playing a game with me or my eyes fails me. Well, I’ll find it when… oh, there it is. But now I sit here with Tarot of the Sidhe by Emily Carding, a deck I might not have bought first hand to begin with, but since it was something I won I just had to try it out and learn more about it. So here it is.

Your Divine Gift

Your Divine Gift

1. What is my divine gift in this lifetime?

2. How can i graciously share it?

3. To what eminence can I rise by sharing this divine gift?

4. What brightness does this gift provide?

The divine gift is represented by Dreamer Prince – Gift of Liberty (Swords – Air). A card with yellow/green and blues. A male face resting in the hands in thought perhaps? Birds around him, or around his head and some flying off and beams of light or sunshine going out from his head too. So what is my divine gift? Listening and letting go of others thoughts and problems? Giving their mind wings to fly? Something with freedom and letting go, spreading some light over things. Or having lots of thoughts, dreams and wishes that I might not be able to fulfill for my own part, but for others. I’m the thinker, not really the doer of deeds.

How to share it then, and here we find Dreamer Seven – A Coward Betrays (Swords – Air). A card with a young man out in the night and the full moon lights up in the dark. He is surrounded by spirits in scary masks or if it is their faces. One is holding a dagger in his hand ready to strike this young man. They seem to be upset about something. And when I look closer there behind the tree it looks like someone is hiding. But why? So sharing my gift of thinking and all that, I should be open about it, not use or be used by others for the wrong cause. To take on my challenge and not let myself down by being scared of the things I cannot see or know so much about. Thinking of bad dreams, nightmares, and how they can make us feel when we are about to do things that we are not used to, or afraid of doing. Face my fears and go out in the open the best I can for the good of us all. Sharing my gift.

What good will it do sharing my gift with Warrior Four – Foundations Blessed (Wands – Fire). This is a different card from the previous. This is colorful and a lot happier, more open. You can see mountains and a blue sky dotted with clouds in the background. Two hands held against each other surrounded by fire meet above the entrance into a grassy hill. On each side of the entrance there is a tree and a woman and a man is standing in the opening. They hold each others hands and inside the doors you can see some sort of chamber. Between their raised hands you can see the same flame as the hands outside. It will release a lot of energy, merging and transform, balancing. If I work with this it will make my inner life more fulfilling and open new doors to my inner realms. As well as spreading outside of me and be able to share it with others too.

And last, what brightness will this gift provide with The Dreamer – Air (Ace of Swords)? A female face contemplating things with closed eyes. A sword in her forehead with the third eye open between two crescents. At her ears there is wings like on a winged helmet and this yellow color spreads out to the sides. Underneath her is a blue sky and green mountain tops and she’s keeping her hands in the sign of the element Air. Peacefulness, balance, harmony, knowing when and how to do things. No rush, no disturbances. To be one with everything, the element and the surroundings but still open and aware of what is going on.

The last card felt very serene so I hope I will get there one day. Now it’s time to go get daughter from school and hopefully get some dinner going while I think about this and see if there is any other answers popping up later.

I know, haven’t been here for a long time. Might blame it on the holidays, but that’s not the only reason. I just haven’t had the inspiration or the energy for it. Simple as that. And part of it has to do with having a daughter who’s been having her time off school during the holidays and being a night person too… not much time or chances to work on my own then. But now I’m back and hope I can find something more to write about.

So to start with I used a spread called Year Ahead Spread by Joanna Powell Colbert. Found it at her Gaian Circle forum. It’s a little different from those I’ve been using before (mostly a modified Celtic Cross). This one is using a year card. And that is? some of you might wonder right now. If you’re familiar with numerology it’s quite simple. Just use this year, 2013, instead of your birth year and add day and month and you’ve got it. And for those of you that doesn’t, here is a fast one:  Add the digits of your birth month and day, and add the new year. For example 1 of September 2013 (1+9+2+0+1+3) and you will have 16, The Tower or go a step further and you’ll have 1+6=The Chariot (or as it’s called in the Book of Shadows Tarot, Transformation). As you can see in my spread I’ve used The Tower as my card. And I used Druidcraft for this one.

Year Card

  1. Page of Wands – What issue do I need to focus on during the coming year to bring growth and wisdom into my life?
  2. 4 of Wands – What positive energy (or helping energy) will flow my way? (2 cards; read the positive aspects of the Year Card plus another)
  3. 10 of Wands – How will I be challenged? (2 cards;  read the shadow aspects of the Year card, plus another)
  4. Death – What or who will help me?
  5. 5 of Wands – What energies am I releasing with the Old Year?
  6. 4 of Pentacles – What will help me release that energy?
  7. 7 of Cups – What’s the energy around my Health in the coming year?
  8. 10 of Swords – What’s the energy around Relationships in the coming  year?
  9. The Lady – What’s the energy around my Work/Career in the coming year?
  10. 6 of Cups – What’s the energy around my Finances in the coming year?
  11. Page of Cups – What’s up for me on my Spiritual Path in the coming year?
  12. 4 of Cups – What can I do to have a successful year?
  13. Queen of Swords – What wisdom can emerge for me during the year to come?

What I need to focus on during this year will be a lot about daring to go forward, be active and show the world that I exist and what I know, what I have with me that can be of interest for others. To be seen and follow the path I feel is right for me.

The positive or helping energy that flows my way this year might be the feeling that there will be insights that I wont have to run around like mad to find. Rather try to slow down and narrow things to focus on a smaller area at a time. Somehow I will be showed where the most important things are.

The challenges that will come in my way this year will probably be found in the fact that I have to do so much more this year then I did before. Things that’s felt stable isn’t any longer and I have to rebuild and maybe not in the exact same spot as before.

What or who will help me is the old wisdom, the dark Goddess who in her wisdom and knowledge will help me let go of what has been, to realize where I have to go and how, what is holding me back from what I can become and who I already are on the inside.

The energies I let go of with the old year is the opposite things I’ve been having around me, instead I will be focusing more on my own and let others have their problems without making them mine.

What will help me to release that energy can be something about, in some way, getting rid of the things that doesn’t do me good and save what is important (how unusual, huh?). Let go of the feeling of holding on to all you have or have had just because it feels secure and safe. Not feeling that the material stuff is the most valuable in life.

The energy around my health during this year seems to be a lot on the emotional side. Might have problems walking away, having a way of getting stuck in old patterns and having some difficulty to see what is positive and can help me on the way.

Relationships during this year wont be my best side, it’s still to much of the old stuff around me that’s taken it’s fair share of my energy and trust. I don’t want to be, and don’t have the energy to be, hurt again and might choose to keep away and just deal what the stuff that is. Or might be betrayed by one or several people?

The energy around my work/career seems to be in a growing position and development. Something new is on it’s way, either from what I’ve already been doing or something completely new. Feel safe and secure in what I feel is happening and feel good about it.

The energy around the financial part during this year doesn’t seem to be to cumbersome, a more relaxed and feeling good about this. I can enjoy what I’ve had and what I have without feeling any pressure. I have what I need and feel happy about it.

On the spiritual path there is a stillness, an inner feeling of focusing and balance. I turn to the west and the element of water, fall will be a special time of year. Nothing new is starting up, rather I’m moving from where I am and already have and am.

The things I can do to have a successful year is stop looking at what I don’t have, rather on what I really have and the joys it give me. Look further than just the nose and not being so single minded. See more sides of where I am even if I’m not moving myself very far.

This wisdom can show itself to me during this year will yet again come from listening inwards, but also to the winds and intuition. The old one has something to say and if I listen to the message I can also find myself in the position of being the one who can give advice and wisdom to others when and if they look for it.
